Russian official says no agreement on oil freeze in OPEC logical

VIENNA, Jun 3 (PRIME) – A new failure to agree on conditions of limiting oil output by OPEC countries has been logical, Vladimir Voronkov, Russia’s envoy for international organizations based in Vienna, said late Thursday.

“The decisions of the OPEC ministerial meeting were not surprising. It is logical that they could not agree on the limits of general oil output between the countries of the organization,” he said.

He said that OPEC states produce only a third of the world oil output, and their influence on the market is limited.

Voronkov also said that OPEC hopes that traditional relations with Russia will continue after Mohammed Barkindo has been elected a new Secretary General. Barkindo has said that OPEC plans to strengthen cooperation with non-OPEC countries, especially Russia.
